The Context — The History
rebukes Israel's shepherds — leaders who fed themselves rather than the flock. God promises to search for His sheep Himself and appoint DavidIsrael’s second king and one of the most central figures in Scripture. Known as a shepherd, warrior, poet, and “a man after God’s own heart,” David united the tribes of Israel, established Jerusalem as the capital, and received the Davidic Covenant, promising that his throne would be established forever — ultimately fulfilled in Jesus, the Son of David. The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After condemning negligent leaders and promising to be the true Shepherd, God pledges blessing around His holy hill. He will send showers in season, reversing famine and desolation under failed shepherds.
