The sacred four‑letter name of God in Hebrew, called the Tetragrammaton (יהוה). It identifies the one true, supreme Elohim—the God of Israel—distinguished from all other spiritual beings. YHVH expresses God’s eternal, self‑existent nature (“I AM”), His covenant faithfulness, and His unique authority over heaven and earth. Out of reverence, Jews traditionally avoid pronouncing the name, using titles like Adonai (“Lord”) instead. In Scripture, YHVH is the Creator, Redeemer, and Most High God, unmatched in power, holiness, and sovereignty.
