The Context — The History
John wrote Revelation to churches under Roman persecution, offering visions of God's ultimate victory. Ancient readers knew grief, disease, and injustice intimately — this promise of a renewed creation answered deep longing for relief.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
describes a new heaven and new earth where God dwells with His people. The one seated on the throne announces that the former things are gone, and He personally wipes away every tear from their eyes.
